About Cruising....

Today was soooooo relaxing.

We have finally settled down into a routine. The normal workings of the ship and the staff are no longer strange and unique. I can sit back and let things run themselves in the background rather than wonder what is going on and what people are doing.

I know our wait staff and most of the poker dealers (and many of the other players) by name and can treat them like old friends. Things are confortable now, and very pleasant.

We started the day as usual, with breakfast in the Lido restaurant -- scrambled eggs, sausage, country potatoes and ham slices. And coffee. Lots of coffee. Then up to the Crow's Nest to check e-mail and post to our journals.

As I finished posting, Christine went down to a seminar, and I stayed up to finsih up and did a crossword. Then I read some from a poker book and really got my confidence up.

I went down to the poker room around 11:00 and played 4/8 Limit Hold 'em. I played that for most of the day and came out ahead $40.

At one point I took a lunch break and met Chris up on the Lido Deck. The people at the next table had these little cheesecakes, so I went into the restaurant to get some for us, and while I was there I got 2 slices of pizza. Out of habit, I salted it. And for the first time I can remember, it was actually too salty. Wow! Pizza salty enough for me without extra salt!

I quit playing at 3:30 to go look at the glaciers in Glacier Bay. The terrain is marvelous. I love the glacial valleys, hard granite peaks and wooded hillsides. All to easy to imagine Viking Longships around each corner. Plus I got a nice steaming bowl of Dutch Split Pea soup.

Marjorie Glacier itself, which goes into the water and sloughs off ice chunks for the visiting tourists, was neat to see, but not really all that much fun to stare at waiting for her to perform. I fell asleep in my chair on the deck before Christine dragged me back to our room for a nap.

Becca, who we hadn't seen since breakfast, woke us up 10 minutes before dinner, and I stagger into the dining room bleary-eyed and barely able to figure out what my name was. We had a different set of dining companions, as they had been bumped from their table by the rudeness of some of our poker dealers.

We had a nice dinner. I had Proscuitto, Dutch bean soup, and a parsley and mustard glazed pork roast that was absolutely to die for. And triple chocolate avalanche cake for desert. We got to hear the interesting story of one of the couple's trip to Khazakstan, Samarkand and travels along the Silk Road. Much fun!

After dinner, I played more poker, but was feeling so good I went back to 1/2 NL. It went well. I ended up down $8 for the session (up $32 for the day), but I played well and correctly for the session. I made some good raises, some semi-bluffs and even a good full bluff that was successful. I quit when the table got harder and was going to change tables, but then Christine showed up and I decided to hang out with her.

We went up to 10-Forward and got drinks. I had a Coral Lemon Drop, but I don't remember now what was in it. I was very good. Citrusy with a fruity hint as well. We had a really good chat, she had too much to drink and so, being to old, boring people that we are went to bed early. Except that then I found an interesting program on the History Channel about gold and gold-rushes, and stayed up for another hour watching that.

Tomorrow we are in Juneau, AK and will go ashore . . .

Excellent. About having an +$ day, that is.
So you are all still having fun? That is really very cool.

I dropped you an e-mail the other day. Can you check it from the boat?

I replied to it. Did you not get it?

The answer was 'yes'. And that I thought we had already talked about that and decided yes.

I'll re-send the e-mail.

I didn't get your e-mail, or it's re-send if you've done that.

We decided that already? Crap. Maybe you should start your aging penalties at 25, because I don't remember that at all : (
